The Brown Family- Before The Alaskan Bush Show
Being one of Discovery Channel's most watched shows, this is the story of a pretend backwoods family who wanted to get rich or famous or both so they moved to Alaska to live in the wild and film a show. They've received special treatment from the locals. The producers concerned about their naivete and ignorance of "the woods and the local environment," moved them into a room next to their hotel room, in hopes of keeping an eye on them and helping them become more acclimated to the Alaskan culture.
The Brown's are quite a group, Billy is the patriarch of the clan, with much more common sense than anyone else in his slightly scatterbrained family. Billy's wife Ami, has spent most of her time trying to find a fitting home in Alaska for the family. The Browns' whose daily encounters are without corrupt politics, familiar fashions, indoor plumbing, and the other trappings of modern life.
Most modern suburbanites couldn't stand living next to the Brown's. A socially prominent, status-conscious person, would never try to civilize them, and, at some point, would suffer the indignity of only having to move away. That Billy has fawned over his family, and indulged them to live in the woods has only made matters worse. To help him with the monumental task of dealing with outsiders and living in the woods, Mr. Brown has always had the able help of his somewhat clumsy and awkward assistants, his sons.
In its first season, the Brown's spent a lot of time in the hill country of Alaska. In the later years, when winter was in the air, the Brown's would travel to southern Alaska to build a home because they would always seem to be without one for the coming winter.
In recent seasons of the show the Brown family finally has became somewhat successful in outdoor life and, more important, as woodsmen. None of Billy's outdoor business schemes have worked but, that doesn't matter. They've recently purchased a boat, and have spent recent seasons building a business using it. There is also an extended running feud on the show between the brothers Mat and Bam Bam Brown. Over the years we've got to enjoy the family's continual health problems, sunken boats, and homes that they've lost. All good for a night of laughs and comedy.

‘Alaskan Bush People’ Brown Family Secretly Living In Hotel, Locals Claim
According to Alaskan Bush People patriarch Billy, the Browns have lived in the Alaskan wilderness for 30 years. His seven children with wife Ami were all “born and raised wild,” the family’s reality show website claims.
However, the eccentric family may have been fibbing to fans for years. Two locals exclusively state that Billy, Ami and the whole gang actually live in a cozy Hoonah, Alaska, hotel!
Neighbors Jay Erickson and Becky Hunnicutt claim they see the Browns coming and going from the Icy Strait Lodge at all hours.
“All of the boys have their own rooms,” Hunnicutt stated.
Despite the fakery accusations, the Browns haven’t tried to hide their cushy digs. Billy’s oldest son Matt, 33, even hangs out at the lodge’s bar and restaurant.
According to a separate source, Matt — was once arrested for DUI after having sex with a girl he met in a Juneau bar— is ready and eager to hook up with girls on his home turf.
“Matt is very good with the ladies, charming and funny. A natural flirt,” states an insider. “He holds nothing back when trying to get up a girl’s skirt. He even has memorized pick up lines!”
Crew members from the family’s Discovery Channel reality show often kick back at the Icy Strait as well, the source adds.
At one point, Erickson and Hunnicutt claim, Matt lived with some of the crew at the nearby Misty Bay Lodge, but he has since returned to the Icy Strait.
The Browns’ bush “home,” Browntown, is allegedly just a front for filming.
Insiders claim the clan has only spent the night in the makeshift village while cameras were rolling.
Insiders report that the family’s secret home is just the latest fraud accusation to hit the Browns. Billy and second oldest son Josh, 31, recently served 30 days on house arrest for falsification charges after officials claim the entire clan spent much of their time between 2009 and 2012 in the lower 48 states, not Alaska. (They pled guilty to lying on government applications for dividend checks.)
